Alan Farber is the founding partner of A. Farber & Partners Inc. Since starting the company in 1979, Alan has been the driving force in transforming the company into one of the premiere corporate insolvency and restructuring firms in Canada. A. Farber & Partners Inc. is part of the Farber Financial Group, where Alan has led the strategic evolution of the Group into a full complement of financial specialty services. These areas include fraud investigations, forensic accounting, mergers and acquisitions, corporate finance advisory services, turnaround and crisis management, and CFO resources.

Over the years, Alan has earned a tremendous reputation in the profession for his creativity, energy, exceptional work ethic, and adherence to professional standards. He has applied his considerable expertise to numerous commercial insolvency and restructuring engagements. These have included assignments for firms involved in virtually all sectors of the economy, from manufacturing, distribution and construction to retail, financial services, service and hi-tech. Working with strategic partners, he has also been actively involved in the initialization and management of several of the firm's major commercial engagements.

A sought-after and dynamic public speaker, Alan is frequently called upon to present his perspective on bankruptcy, insolvency and restructuring matters. He has spoken at numerous industry seminars, as well as been a guest on the Report on Business program "Money Talk." He is often interviewed as a subject matter expert by business and financial media in Canada.

Alan has a Bachelor of Commerce degree from South Africa. He is a Chartered Accountant, a Chartered Insolvency and Restructuring Professional and a Licensed Trustee in Bankruptcy in Canada. Alan is also a board member of The Koby Mandell Foundation and an active member of numerous philanthropic organizations including the United Jewish Appeal and the Canadian Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Centre.

Allan has been a key member of A. Farber & Partners' corporate restructuring and insolvency team since 1991 and a partner since 2001. Prior to immigrating to Canada from South Africa, Allan practised as a Chartered Accountant in the areas of management consulting and international tax planning. In 1995, he became a licensed Trustee in Bankruptcy, and has since managed many successful restructurings and insolvency engagements for corporations in a wide range of industries.

He has acted as court-appointed receiver and interim receiver; as a trustee under Bankruptcy and Insolvency Act (BIA) proposals; and as a trustee in bankruptcy for a wide variety of corporations and their creditors. He applies his analytical skills to help major financial institutions and other lenders with risk and feasibility studies.

Notable assignments for Allan include: the restructuring and sale of the largest movie production studio in Toronto and successfully managing the operations and liquidation of numerous manufacturing and distribution businesses in the cosmetics, textiles, automotive parts, car dealership and leasing, software development, music and food distribution industries. He has acted as Court-appointed Receiver and Trustee in Bankruptcy of Securities firms, and as such was involved in the first reported case in Ontario on Part XII of the Bankruptcy and Insolvency Act. He has participated in numerous insolvency and forensic proceedings to trace and recover assets in Canada and internationally; and completed the bankruptcy sale of a timeshare resort in Northern Ontario plagued with legal complexities.

Allan has spoken on the topic of "Fraud: Prevention and Recovery" to the Laurentian Bank of Canada and has published articles on insolvency and restructuring as well as forensic accounting and fraud investigations in publications such as Law Times, Advanced Manufacturing, The Bottom Line, Plant, and The Globe and Mail.

Dennis joined A. Farber & Partners Inc. in 2002 and is a senior manager in our personal insolvency group. Dennis has successfully managed numerous Division I Proposals and ordinary administration bankruptcies, and regularly attends at the Court on insolvency matters for the firm.

Prior to joining the firm, Dennis obtained his law degree from Michigan State University College of Law and practiced insolvency law in the United States, where he represented debtors and large financial institutions in mortgage and insolvency related matters. Dennis is a member of the Bars of Ontario, District of Columbia, and the Eastern & Western Districts of Michigan. He is also a member of the Canadian Bar Association.

Gary is a joint managing partner of A. Farber & Partners Inc., focussing primarily on the corporate restructuring and insolvency areas of the group. He received his Chartered Accountant designation in 1986 from South Africa, his Canadian designation in 1990, and his Trustee in Bankruptcy licence in 1995. Prior to immigrating to Canada in 1988, Gary honed his auditing and advisory skills in a wide range of industries and was an integral member of the team that grew a ten-store supermarket chain to a public company with over 150 stores.

As head of the corporate insolvency and restructuring teams, Gary brings over 25 years of professional and business experience to the firm's engagements. His calm, confident approach and in-depth knowledge have resulted in an enviable reputation for effective and innovative results. He has worked on the behalf of banks, venture capital firms, and other secured lenders, and has analysed and developed effective strategies and solutions for owners of distressed businesses across a variety of industries. His creativity and excellent people and negotiation skills have enabled him to expertly facilitate resolutions to difficult situations.

Gary was instrumental in the formation and launch of the other financial services offered by the Farber Financial Group - Mergers, Acquisitions and Corporate Finance Advisory Services; Turnaround Management; and CFO Resources - and maintains an ongoing involvement in each.

He has conducted numerous presentations on the topic of Bankruptcy and Insolvency Act reform to lawyers, accountants and bankers. He has also presented for the Canadian Franchise Association on "What happens when a franchise system fails." Gary has published various articles covering topics such as purchasing a distressed business, advantages of using an interim CFO, and the benefits of financial restructuring in Canada's new economic environment.

Gary is a member of the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants, the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario, the Canadian Association of Insolvency and Restructuring Professionals, the Ontario Association of Insolvency and Restructuring Professionals, and the Turnaround Management Association.

Prior to immigrating to Canada from South Africa, Hylton worked for a global investment banking organization in the strategic finance and restructuring department, concentrating on the group's listing on the London Stock Exchange.

Jeremy began his insolvency and restructuring career with the firm in 1996. Prior to joining, he practiced as a Chartered Accountant with a major accounting firm both in South Africa and Canada. This was followed by a series of progressively more senior roles in the construction and related manufacturing and distribution industries. In 2001, he became a licensed Trustee in Bankruptcy.

His restructuring and insolvency practice has evolved from exclusively corporate to focus on the development of the consumer practice. Jeremy thrives on the challenge of finding creative, practical and, most importantly, cost-effective solutions for the unique complexities and challenges presented by the owner/manager and smaller businesses. Nicknamed "The Bulldog," Jeremy will persevere in finding the best possible solution for each situation without losing his special human touch and sense of humor. Jeremy continues to bring his professional skills to bear in a practice that has helped hundreds of clients address their financial hardship in a dignified manner and that leads to an optimal realization for creditors.

John joined our corporate restructuring and insolvency team in 2002, bringing 11 years of insolvency and restructuring experience with a major accounting firm. He has acted as privately and court-appointed receiver and interim receiver, as trustee under BIA proposals and as trustee in bankruptcy for a wide variety of large- to mid-sized corporations and their creditors, and in forensic proceedings to trace and recover assets in Canada and internationally. He has also gotten his hands dirty acting as CFO of an Internet start-up that was eventually sold to a publicly-traded U.S. company.

John has extensive experience in many industries, especially in real estate, hospitality, manufacturing and retail. Notable assignments include: the operating and realizations of a major real estate developer with land holdings valued at over $100M; a Collingwood full-service resort; a 45-store chain of video stores; and a Yukon mining facility. He also applies his analytical skills to help major financial institutions and other lenders with risk and feasibility studies.

Jon obtained his HBA in 1978 from The Richard Ivey School of Business Administration, at The University of Western Ontario. He qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1982 and has since been practicing exclusively in the areas of insolvency, special investigations and advising clients with respect to companies in financial difficulty. Jon is a Chartered Insolvency and Restructuring Professional and a licensed Trustee in Bankruptcy. Prior to joining the firm, Jon was a principal at Coopers & Lybrand (now PricewaterhouseCoopers), a major international accounting and consulting firm, and later ran his own insolvency practice.

In more than 20 years of insolvency and investigations experience, Jon's assignments have encompassed a wide range of companies, including high technology, investment, manufacturing, restaurant, entertainment, distribution, service and retail businesses. He has acted on behalf of major banks, secured and unsecured creditors as well as debtors and government regulators. He is experienced in performing financial reviews, business viability assessments and receivership and bankruptcy enforcement proceedings. Jon brings a strong presence in dealing with insolvency engagements in the context of large fraud and forensic investigations.

Jon has lectured to bankers and lawyers on various bankruptcy and insolvency matters including inventory financing and monitoring, credit enforcement, dealing with the management of companies in financial difficulty, as well as forensic investigations in insolvency proceedings.

Jon is an avid hockey player and runner.

Michael joined our team in early 2004. He has extensive corporate recovery experience in retail, construction, clothing, manufacturing and auto industries, and provides insolvency services and reorganization advice to lenders and company officers.

Michael initially studied dentistry then re-directed his education to economics obtaining a BA (Honours). He passed CA examinations in the UK at a medium-size accounting firm, going on to obtain his insolvency license in 1990 while at a small insolvency boutique just when Britain experienced a severe recession. After obtaining his insolvency license, Mr. Baigel moved to the UK's largest independent corporate recovery and insolvency specialists. Some of his more interesting U.K. work was that of instigating turnaround procedures to restructure the finances of a professional rugby team and a semi-professional soccer team.

Upon emigrating to Canada in 2000, he joined a major international accounting firm and managed a number of diverse projects, including CCAA, interim receivership, court appointed receivership and bankruptcy appointments, as well as investigations into the financial viability of companies.

Notable assignments include: the divestiture of an under-performing software house, which operated globally as four separate legal entities requiring insolvency procedures in Canada, UK and Cyprus; the operation, restructuring and sale of a chain of 85 electronic retail stores which operated in four provinces. Michael also prepared and presented a commercial case study for the 2003 CAIRP Insolvency and Restructuring Forum held throughout Canada.

His only regret about moving to Canada was relinquishing his Manchester United season tickets.

Stuart Mitchell is a leading expert in the area of corporate renewal and recovery. With more than 25 years of industry experience, Stuart has been extensively involved in leading turnaround restructurings and insolvency engagements. With his in-depth understanding of the Canadian legal process, Stuart is skilled at providing litigation support through valuation and insolvency analyses, damage calculations and forensic investigations.

Stuart has played an instrumental role helping companies of all sizes rejuvenate their operations and maximize corporate value. Warren became a licensed Trustee in Bankruptcy in 1997 and joined Watkins, Wilson & Associates Inc. (WWA) in 1998. Shortly thereafter, he became a partner in that firm and moved to British Columbia for a year, where he successfully opened and managed several offices, which we continue to operate today. He joined our firm in the Personal Insolvency Division through our acquisition of WWA in the spring of 2000. Warren also has experience in managing restructurings and insolvency engagements for corporations.

He recently embraced the responsibility of managing and growing the firm's mid-north Ontario practice and is currently based in our Barrie office.

Warren is actively involved in fundraising initiatives and supports several charitable causes. He continues to be active in the Masonic Order as Past Master of his Lodge and is a Shrine Mason.
