I met with a man whose spouse had recently passed away. During his grieving, the creditors were calling him and harassing him that he was now responsible for her debt. There was no life insurance and she had no assets.
The man took out a loan through his bank hoping to pay her outstanding creditors off. He was looking for a solution to his problem as he was now realizing that he could not afford to pay the debt he took out in his name.
When he found out that there was really nothing the creditors could have done in getting paid out on his deceased spouse’s estate, he stated to me that he wished he would have come to see us at A. Farber & Partners prior to him taking out the loan to pay his deceased spouse’s debt off.
The moral is to always check out all your options first before jumping into something where it is then too late to do anything about it.
