Position Summary

We are currently seeking a Tax Administrator to join our Sheppard office, from the beginning of February to end of April, to assist during tax season. Reporting to the Senior Tax Administrator, the successful candidate will be required to complete tasks related to the Trustee in Bankruptcy’s responsibilities, such as filing income tax and GST returns for individuals (including self-employed).


Major Responsibilities 


Operations Duties

  • Complete prior, pre and post-bankruptcy tax returns for the relevant taxation years, as well as in-trust tax returns

  • Processing of in-trust tax returns, including determination the of requirement to file a return, preparation and submission to the CCRA along with reviewing and making payment of the resulting tax liability

  • Reviewing tax files to determine completeness of relevant tax information

  • Photocopying returns for the tax file, and when necessary, for the bankrupt

  • Filing of documents in relation to the client’s taxes

  • Updating the CPA, to track the completion of tasks

  • Processing and intaking of CCRA Notices of Assessment, including sorting and filing large volumes of mail, reviewing and reconciling tax assessments against the filed returns

  • Processing quarterly GST payment cycles, including, sorting and filing high volumes of GST correspondences, coding cheques for banking and redirecting cheques to bankrupts as required

  • Managing CCRA returns/correspondence for business GST accounts for selfemployed bankrupts as required

  • Ad hoc communication with bankrupts and CCRA as required to answer questions, accommodate special requests, and troubleshoot problems with regards to incorrect tax return assessments as well as held and/or missdirected refunds



  • High school or equivalent



  • Overtime should be expected during tax season (mid-February to end of April)

  • Solid knowledge and experience in basic personal Canadian income tax return preparation (including self-employed taxpayers), using tax software

  • Willingness and ability to utilize excellent organizational/administrative skills to process high volumes of paperwork, correspondences and filing

  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, to be utilized in dealing with the CCRA, other firm staff, and bankrupts

  • Ability to use Microsoft Outlook, Excel and Word for preparation of reports and correspondence

  • Working knowledge of the Insolvency Manager Software considered an asset

  • Experience with bankruptcy tax returns and Taxprep software is an asset, but not a requirement
